Fresh Cotton Rugs for Summer | Dash & Albert Rugs

I love cotton rugs.  They are affordable, versatile, and offer a fresh look that wool just can't do.

These simple ticking and awning stripe rugs from Dash & Albert are right up my alley.   They are priced from $30 (2x4') to $414 (9x12').

All great basic colors - would look great in any room.  I'm going to replace all of our heavy wool rugs with these light cotton rugs for summer.

Easter Lemon Meringue Pie | Spring Dessert | Lemon Dessert for Easter

This is my favorite pie.  It is a very simple recipe that is very versatile - I make it as mini tartlets for parties or swap the lemon juice for key lime.  In this post, I used meringue, but I typically prefer whipped cream.  Either option is great - the meringue takes a little bit more time, but it does look great when toasted on the tips.

Lemon Pie
2 small pies 8" or 1 large 10"

1 pastry crust (store-bought or homemade)
2 cans of sweetened condensed milk
6 egg yolks
1 cup of fresh lemon juice*
1 tablespoon of lemon zest*

Put pastry crust into pie plate.  I used a ceramic quiche dish because all of pie tart pans and pie plates are packed!

In a mixing bowl, stir together condensed milk, egg yolks, juice and zest.  Mix until combined.  Pour into the crust.

Kitchens | The Most Amazing Kitchens | Kitchen Inspiration for Classic & Functional Spaces

I'm dreaming of a White Kitchen... white painted cabinetry, and white carrera marble, that is.  This week, I went to the Boston Design Center - a.k.a. interior design mega world of Boston.  Upholstery, bolts of fabric, framed prints, mirrors, and fantastic kitchens.  My favorite showroom contained two kitchens that I completely fell for.

My design strategy for a kitchen is pretty simple.  It is not a space you decorate.  I don't like patterns, bright colors or anything that isn't functional.  For me, a kitchen must look and feel functional - like a workshop.  It must look clean and uncluttered, it must have a big island, and it feel inspiring to you.

KITCHEN #1 : Classic Cream with Butcher Block, Glass Front Cabinets, and Rustic Accents

I'm going to have Mike make a mini version of this island for our new house - it is going to house our built-in refrigerators.

I love the shinny nickel plated hardware - very classic without being trendy.

Lobster Mac and Cheese Recipe | The Best Lobster Mac & Cheese at Home`

Lobster Mac and Cheese Recipe

Lobster Mac and Cheese Recipe

I always thought that Lobster Mac & Cheese was just too indulgent to make at home.  It seems like something so frivolous, financially indulgent and, well, a waste.  In Boston (our new temporary home - more about that later!), Lobster Mac & Cheese is everywhere - on every menu.  I see it on menus more often than I do 'Chowdah.'  Most menus have it listed for $25.  Yikes.  I calculated that I would be able to make enough for 2 large servings for less $25.  It still blows my $10 dinner budget, but it is a great splurge for a Saturday night dinner.

After some research on "The Best Homemade Mac and Cheese" recipes, I decided to use The Barefoot Contessa's recipe as a starting point.  I used white cheddar, gruyere and added some colby jack to balance the flavor of the stronger cheeses.

I bought a live lobster and steamed it at home, but that is not necessary.  Actually, I really didn't like cooking the live lobster - I know, I know we all need to be conscious of where our food comes from, and be conscious that eating meat is actually eating a once live animal... but, I think I'll just buy it pre-steamed next time.

My Favorite Appliances | Budget Friendly & Great Looking | Affordable Commercial Looking Appliances

As mentioned before, I'm helping my sister put together her new custom home.  In this post, I've compiled some of my favorite elements that I think make a great kitchen - for function and asthetics.

Above : I love farmhouse apron front sinks.  While I love light blue, I don't know if I would paint my cabinets blue... unless it was a little cottage or beach house - that would be perfect.   I also love this polished nickel elevated faucet.

I really like Sear's Kenmore Pro line of appliances.  I think they have the "Viking" look and functionality without the price.  This refrigerator is a major refrigerator.  The tiles are fantastic, as well as the commercial kitchen look - it will be a long time before this goes out of style, if it ever would.

German Chocolate Bars | Pecan & Coconut Cookie Bar with Brownie Bites | Dad's Birthday Package

German Chocolate Bars for my Dad's Birthday

German Chocolate Bars | Pecan, Coconut & Chocolate Bars

My Dad loves anything chocolate - his favorite being German Chocolate Cake.  The icing of German Chocolate Cake is a pecan and coconut caramel icing.  I decided to try to incorporate chocolate, pecan and coconut into a 'mail-able' cookie bar to send to him for his birthday.
